Kinja'd!!!

A friend left a few of these at my house after the Super Bowl. I’m generally not a big fan of wheat beers, let alone hoppy wheat beers. But these are actually pretty good. Of course, after not drinking since last Saturday, it’s probably not a good idea to drink too many overly hoppy beers. These things are making me pretty loopy. But they are tasty.

Umm... I think some fighter jets flew over my house. I live a stone’s throw from Bush airport and plane watch in my backyard or roof when I can. I was inside the house when I heard a plane go by.... muuuch higher pitch and louder than any commercial jet. 10-15 minutes later, I heard another. I didn’t see it but i did make it outside as the sound was still loud. I couldn’t see any large commercial jet.

Something in its way to Ellington? Could have been NASA T-38s, who knows? Does the TX ANG operate out of Bush?

In other news, I need to arrange a time to come down there and do some plane spotting with you.

Before I got to “10%” I was thinking, I bet that’s some potent stuff. I’m more of a pilsner/lager guy, but at the right time, in the right setting, something like that would be perfect.

Despite having lived in Chicagoland for a few years of my childhood, and remaining an avid Chicago sports fan, I have only been to Wrigley Field once. About 15 years or so ago (maybe 20?), I auditioned for the Chicago Symphony (I didn’t get the gig). I was staying with some friends who lived in Evanston, and when I was done with my morning audition round, a bunch of us non-winners were sitting around waiting to hear that we didn’t win. A guy from OKC asked me what I was going to do that day (it was some time in April, iirc), and I said I was going to go to the Art Institute. He said the Rockies were in town, and we should go to the game. So, that’s what we did. My host worked for a big bank downtown (NBD?), so after lunch at Berghoff’s, she gave us El tokens and we headed north. We got seats in the bleachers out in right field with Sammy Sosa, and drank Old Style Beer (Heineken? Fuck that shit!). The day started out cold and windy and cloudy, but by the National Anthem the wind had shifted, the clouds went away, it got up to about 65 degrees, we sang with Harry, and got hammered. And the Cubs lost. If they had won, it would not have been a complete experience. After the game, we had dinner at Greek Islands, drank copious amounts of retsina, and somehow I ended up back in Evanston. Best. Day. Ever.

It’s a wonderful dessert beer, but yeah it is a bit potent. Definitely not one that you just down quickly and I wouldn’t order more than one. We just got it in Mississippi so I couldn’t pass it up.

Yeah dude who knows, it was definitely something i’d never heard here distinct to a fighter jet. Last week a classic A380 passed by ultra low followed by a twin prop plane on the same runway. It was a bit odd lol

I play with a regional orchestra in west Texas, and sub pretty regularly with the Austin Symphony. Plus a bit of freelance stuff.

Wrigley was always such a magical place when I was a kid. It was back in the days before the lights, so all the games were day games. Every once in a while, a kid would be absent from school. “Where’s Johnny?” “He’s at a Cubs game with his dad .” “Wowwww.” The day games also meant that when I came home to an empty house after school, there was usually a game on WGN to watch. That was back in the Dave Kingman, Andre Dawson days. My folks took me to one Blackhawks game. We were in the goal end, just above Tony Espsito. Tony. Esposito. Bobby Hull was still playing. Bobby. Hull. Stan. Mikita. Are you kidding me?? This was back at the old Chicago Stadium, and they played the Bruins. Fistfights on the ice, fistfights in the stands, the whole nine yards. Man, I’m getting choked up.

For some reason, “Diet Pepsi” made me chuckle.

I’d say, “Enjoy your trip,” but that phrase always sounds like some sort of order, and I’m sure you will. I’d go to Europe tomorrow if I could. Flying company? Are they giving you a good seat, or are you sitting in steerage with all of us stooges?

Thanks, it should be good. A lot of driving too, but we have a van.

Seat 3C on an A330. Should have an updated interior and IFE. “Delta One”, our FC product, has gotten pretty damn good. My drink of choice there is whiskey and Coke until desert where I switch to Baileys. Fun fact, I was a part of a group that showed our CEO our high powered lasers this week (yes we have high powered lasers), a mentor group I am part of took our mentees to talk with our CFO Paul Jacobson for an hour (he is a very cool guy. Very down to earth) and I talked with everyone between me and the CEO, except our Chief Operating Officer at some point this week. Been kind of crazy!

Dawson would have been early 80s? I was a few years behind you I think. I’ve never had a bad time at Wrigley or in it’s area. I can’t say that for “The Cell” out south.

My Uncle was a Daisy Meat Distributor back when Hull, Makita and Esposito were around. He got tickets all the time on the glass. I still miss the Stadium. That joint was just amazing. The UC has become accepted but it’s never going to equal it’s smaller predecessor. One thing remains from the old days. The Palace Grill. If you hung out there long enough on practice days you were guaranteed to meet the heroes.

Glad to hear you’re still playing. I don’t go to the CSO as much as I did when I was married but once in a while I get the itch. I’m a bit of a Brass nut and that rolls over into a lot of the non-Country music I listen to.
